They are sacrificial, which is exactly why they need replacing more often than the panels underneath.
We stock body side mouldings, rocker mouldings, belt mouldings, pillar mouldings, door mouldings, wheel opening mouldings, sill plates, appliques and trim strips for Kia, Nissan, Mazda and Volvo models.
Trim fails in three ways. The retaining clips fatigue and the strip works loose at the ends and flaps at speed. The UV exposure dulls the finish and pits the chrome insert. And once the clips break, water sits behind the moulding and starts the corrosion cycle on the panel edge it was protecting.
Trim is side-specific and length-specific. A left-hand strip will not fit the right-hand side, and the length and clip spacing differ between sedan, hatch and wagon bodies even when the model name is identical. Check whether the original insert is chrome, black or primed — the mounting channel is shared but the insert finish is not.
