Body Hardware

Body hardware is the unglamorous half of a body repair: the clips, brackets, seals, plates and reinforcement pieces that hold the visible panels where they belong.

Buying guide: Body Hardware

We carry the fittings that Kia, Nissan, Mazda and Volvo use across their car and SUV ranges, catalogued by the manufacturer part number rather than by a generic description, because a bracket that is 2 mm out will not seat.

Most of this catalogue exists because plastic fittings do not survive removal. A bumper cover that comes off for a repaint takes eight or ten retainers with it, and the originals are usually brittle by the time the car is ten years old. The same applies to door trim clips, moulding clips and the small brackets that locate a headlamp or a fender.

Structural pieces are here too — impact bars, apron panels, floor reinforcements and aperture panels. These are the parts that carry load in a low-speed impact, and they should be replaced rather than straightened when they have deformed.

Match on the part number. Body hardware is dimension-critical: shank length, clip reach and bolt pitch all change between model years, and the listing for each part gives the model and year range it covers.
