The housing cracks while the mechanism survives, which is why so many mirror repairs are housing and cover jobs rather than whole-assembly replacements.

Options decide the part number: power fold, heating, turn-signal repeaters, puddle lamps and cameras each change what is inside the housing and what connector it uses.
Glass delaminates at the edges and the adjustment motor strips its gears, so a mirror that will not hold its position or will not clear in the morning usually needs the glass or the motor rather than the whole unit. The fold detent wears out and the housing stops locking, which is a separate mechanism again.
