Splash Shield is the panel around the Mazda wheel opening that carries the arch line and shields the inner structure. Genuine Mazda part number DGH9-50-340.
Impact damage from a wheel strike or a minor collision distorts the panel and breaks the liner mounts, which then lets water into the cavity. Panels are handed and body-style specific; confirm the side and whether the car is a sedan, coupe or wagon.
Seam sealer and cavity wax are required along the inner joints after fitting to keep corrosion out.
