HVAC Mode Door is part of the door assembly on your Volvo and carries load every time the door is opened, closed or locked. Genuine Volvo part number 9187499.
Water ingress past a failed seal corrodes the internal linkage, which is why the symptom appears suddenly after a wet season. Trim level affects whether the door carries a sensor, a soft-close or a keyless aerial, so confirm the original part number first.
No paint required; the part mounts behind the door trim panel.
