Handle Base is one of the small body fittings on your Mazda that hold trim, panels and seals in place. Genuine Mazda part number KMV6-72-42XD.
Original fittings become brittle with age and heat cycles, which is why a clip that held for ten years snaps the first time it is disturbed. Match by part number — body hardware is dimension-critical and a 1 mm difference in shank or reach is enough to stop it seating.
Do not over-torque these fittings — the plastic or thin-gauge body panel strips before the fitting does.
